SMRPC TRAFFIC COUNT PROGRAM
Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission has had a counting program in place since 1998. Currently, the program has six counters that it uses to monitor traffic volumes, speeds, and vehicle classifications for the KACTS MPO, the York County portion of the PACTS MPO, for special projects, and for general traffic monitoring in York and southern Oxford Counties. Much of this data is shared with Maine DOT and converted into Average Annual Daily Traffic data for their Annual Traffic Volume Reports. SMRPC traffic count services are available upon request to member municipalities. For more information, contact the SMRPC Transportation Division at (207) 324-2952.

MAINE DOT TRAFFIC COUNT PROGRAM
Maine DOT's traffic count program includes a combination of permanent counts and portable counts across the entire state.
Permanent Traffic Count Program
There are seven Maine DOT permanent count sensor locations in the SMRPC region that document traffic volumes seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The following set of links provide 2003 and 2004 comparisons of month to month average weekdays and average daily traffic in each of the seven count locations. Below there are links to the Average Annual Daily Traffic data from all the permanent count stations Maine DOT has monitored in the SMRPC region since 1962.

Portable Traffic Count Program
Maine DOT counts various locations across the state in different regions of the state depending on their geography. In the SMRPC region, Maine DOT conducts counts on various highways every two or three years. Every year Maine DOT publishes a report on traffic volume counts showing its most recent data for the entire state of Maine. Below is a link to the most recent published Traffic Volume Count Report. Older reports and data are kept on file at SMRPC and data is available upon request.
