Background
SMRPC has been awarded a $200,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This project will run through June 2006 and will result in remedial action and reuse plans for several environmentally-sensitive sites throughout our region.
A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was for consulting services for this project was issued in October 2004. Aquarion Engineering Services of Portland was selected as our consultant. Aquarion's work is underway as of February 2005.

The world of Brownfields redevelopment uses a myriad of abbreviations and jargon. We have assembled two documents that can help you better understand what we mean when we talk about the program: a Glossary of Terms and a List of Acronyms.
MAINE DEP REGIONAL BROWNFIELDS SEMINARS
The Maine Department of Environmental protection will be holding a series of informational seminars on the Brownfields program. The closest seminar to us will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at the South Portland Sheraton from 1:30-4:30 PM. For more information, visit the DEP Brownfields website.
